Alcohol-based hand sanitisers with at least 60% alcohol are the most effective at killing microbes, bacteria, viruses and germs – including Coronavirus, hepatitis A, HIV, influenza A, E coli, and a whole lot more.
Alcohol-free hand sanitisers contain quaternary ammonium compounds instead of alcohol. This can help to reduce microbes, but this is NOT as effective as an alcohol.
It’s important to note that – like washing with soap and water – you need to make sure you cover your hands. This includes between your knuckles, wrists, palms, back of your hand and your fingernails. You must cover fully, rubbing it in for at least 20 seconds so it’s truly effective.
